Miscellaneous Memories
All kinds of things that I haven't figured out where to put, yet.  So, here they will rest.  :-)

Marathon Candy Bar:  Caramel covered in chocolate and braided. It was 8 inches in length. The spokesman was "Marathon John" (who did everything slow) played by Patrick Wayne (John Wayne's son).  Marathon John had a variety of foes one being "Quick Carl" who could do everything quick except eating a Marathon Bar.  The Marathon Bar was introduced in 1973 and was finally taken off the market in 1981.

Bigfoot:  Remember when Bigfoot was all the rage.  Brought into popularity by the footage shot at Bluff Creek back in 1967,  but it wasn't until the early 70's that Bigfoot burst onto the scene in  books, movies, magazines and even the Six Million Dollar Man and later the Bionic Woman had their own run ins with him.  Then, it seems as fast as he appeared, he left again. Whatever happened to him anyway?

Sinbad, Jr:  Remember this cartoon from Hannah-Barbera?  Sinbad Jr, was of, course, the son of the legendary Sinbad.  With his trusty sidekick, Salty, the parrot, Sinbad could go from being just an ordinary human to superhuman by using his magic belt!

The  Hot Fudge Show:  This show was a mixture of live action and puppets and ran from 1976-80.  It started out as a local show for the Detroit Michigan area and gained enough of a following to be syndicated and shown nation wide.  I have been told that Arte Johnson hosted it for the first year, but then a singer by the name of Larry Santos took over for the remainder of the shows.  It is Larry's version that I remember best.

CB Radio: Back in the 1970's CB radio (Citizen's Band) was brought into popularity by the movie Convoy which was a inspired by the CW McCall song of the same name. (FYI---CW McCall who's real name is Chip Davis is the lead musician and composer for Manheim Steamroller)  Even cartoons got into the act, remember the CB Bears, Hustle, Boogie and Bump were garbage collectors who solved mysteries.  They received their orders from an unseen female named Charlie via the CB radio. (hmmm inspiration for another mystery solving trio who received their orders from an unseen boss named Charlie--- talking about Charlies Angels, who else!  :) )

Vegetable Soup: No, not the stuff you eat, but the show that ran on PBS back in 1975-76.  I personally don't remember this show, but thanks to a nice email letter I received, I thought I would put this on the list.

Tennessee Bird Walk: Jack Blanchard and his wife Misty Morgan had a hit with this cute little novelty song back in 1970.

Dead Skunk: Truly a classic (NOT!! lol) song from the 70's ---Loudon Wainwright III had a hit with it.

How many of these singers, groups do you remember?  Road Apples (Let's Live Together 1975),  Dean Friedman (Ariel 1977),

Celebrity Variety Shows seemed to be all the rage in the Seventies---here is a brief listing of the celebrities that had their own variety shows: Jimmy Stewart, Glen Campbell, Flip Wilson, Ken Berry, Bobby Darin, Helen Reddy, John Denver, Bobbie Gentry, Mac Davis, Ben Vereen, Bob Crane, Sonny and Cher, Donnie And Marie, Johnny Cash, Nancy Walker, Soupy Sales, Tony Randall, Wolfman Jack, Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Don Knotts, John Byner, Carol Burnett, Jerry Reed, Julie Andrews
