The Kids From C.A.P.E.R.
A live action show that was a Saturday morning favorite of mine. It first aired in September 1976 and was cancelled a short time later. It is about four guys working for a secret agency called C.A.P.E.R which stood for "Civilian Authority for the Protection of Everyone, Regardless. Steve Bonimo played P.T., the leader of the group who had a super sense of smell. John Lansing played "Doc" the suave, charming brains of the outfit. Cosie Costa played Bugs who was super strong and went bananas every time he heard the word "bananas". Biff Warren played "Doomsday" the shy "dumb" one who could talk to animals. (Sadly, Biff died in 1996). Each episode featured a song and there was a compilation album released, but it didn't have the catchy theme song on it.
The Secrets of ISIS
Another live action show that was a Saturday morning favorite of mine. I liked this show better than Shazam, which is the other show that this was paired with in the Shazam/Isis Hour from 1975-77. In 1978 "The Secrets of Isis" was born. Andrea Thomas (Joanna Cameron) was a high school science teacher who found an ancient amulet while out on an archeological dig. When worn, the amulet allowed her to become super strong and fly. With the words "oh mighty Isis" she would be transformed into my favorite (at that time) female super hero. At the end of each episode Isis would talk more about the moral of the story we had just watched.
Groovie Goolies
The Goolies first aired in 1970 as a spin off from the Archies Comedy Hour and then in 1971 they were given their own half hour show. The setting was Horrible Hall and it was filled with an odd assortment of monsters. The head monster was Count Dracula and he shared Horrible Hall with his wife Bella Laghostly, their son Frankie, a werewolf named Weirdo Wolfie and Bonapart who was a skeleton.
Lidsville
A kid by the name of Mark (played by Butch Cassidy--Eddie Munster from the Munsters) was at a carnival and he was so impressed by a magician that performed there that he decided to sneak backstage and take a closer look at the magician's hat. When he touched it, the hat began to grown until it was taller than Mark. So, being an inquisitive boy, he climbed up onto the rim of the hat and fell in it, going down into a world that was inhabited by talking hats. Of course the show wouldn't have been complete with a villain and we got one in the name of Hoodoo, the Magician played by wonderful character actor Charles Nelson Reilly. Hoodoo and his band of bad hats created all kinds of havoc in Lidsville. He was always trying to get Mark because he had stolen a ring that contained a Genie name---what else but Genie. Hoodoo traveled throughout Lidsville in a hatamarand. He would throw his hat into the air and it would grow in size until it was big enough for him to climb into and fly around Lidsville, pretty bizarre, huh? :-)
Web Woman
This cartoon was a segment on the Tarzan and The Super 7 show (which had been changed from the Tarzan Lord of the Jungle show, to The Tarzan/Batman Hour and finally Tarzan and the Super Seven). When Kelly Webster rescues an insect creature she is rewarded with the powers of all insects. She uses her powers to battle evil and is assisted in her efforts by her partner called Spinner. She also has a mentor named Scarab who lives on another planet. It ran for 10 episodes during 1979-80, I think.
The ABC Weekend Special
The ABC Weekend special first began it's run in 1977. It was a mixture of animated shows as well as live action. Each week we got to watch a cool story usually based on some children's story. I remember only a few of the episodes---"The Red Room Riddle" based on a book by Scott Corbett, "The Haunted Mansion Mystery" based on a book called "The Treasure Trap" by Virginia Masterson-Smith and starring a young Christian Slater and "The House With A Clock In It's Walls" based on the book by the late but great author John Bellairs).
